Hi Sybil,

Good to have you and your computer back.

Having more than one bootable drive attached to your computer has no impact
one way or the other on your computer's performance.

There are actually a number of advantages to having more than one drive with
a viable System Folder. One could be your primary set up, and the second for
maintenance activities that can't be performed on the startup disk. It could
also serve as an ermergency back up system if, heaven forbid, something
should go wrong with your main setup. Yet another use would be to test
"upgrades" to see if they really work for you, or if you'd rather just keep
your main setup as it is.

Unless you have a specific reason for doing otherwise, it is a good idea to
keep the two synchronized with respect to versions of applications and
system software, particularly if you prefer to double-click on documents to
launch applications, as distinguished from launching the application of
choice first, and then opening the document from within the application.
This is because Mac OS will usually try to open the document with an
appropriate application from the same volume, but also attempts to determine
the most recent version of the application if it is aware of multiple
copies; if the most recent vesrsion is not on the startup disk, this can
have unpredictable results, particularly if the application relies on items
in the System Folder of the startup disk ;)

Peace,

paul
