Don't know about an S-900 with SBC, but I can tell you that for a few years I've used Earthlink ADSL on my C-500 with an Asante router and Earthlink's modem. I bought the router primarily because of problems trying to use the software MacPOET that Earthlink provided for use with their modem--and I'd been told the Asante was Mac friendly and relatively easy to set up. The Asante has been pretty reliable. The Ethernet card for the C-500 came from Farallon.

I too have the original the built-in 10-base ethernet card. I am also running OS 9.1 with a Sonnet G-4 upgrade card. My DSL service provider is SBC and they provided the external DSL modem. When I load the SBC DSL software it tkaes out my Apple Talk control pannel to the extent that i cannot print. In working with the SBC techs they tried to get me on by only loading their Enternet software. That in turn took out my TCP/IP and remote access control panels. Finally, the SBC tech suggested that I try connecting via a router, since I would not need any additional software. I bought a Netgear RP614 v2 Cable/DSL Router Gateway with a 4-port 10/100 Mbps switch. Hooked the router to the S900 ethernet port, the DSL Modem to the router and the DSL cable to the modem. Followed th log-in instructions and nada. Chatted with the Netgear techs and they tried to hook me up by manually inputting settings into the TCP/IP control panel, again nothing. I was tempted to replace the ethernet card, but from the precious discussion folks seemed to indicate that that was unneccessary. Is there a more compatible DSL router for the S-900? Has anyone installed DSL on a S-900 running OS 9.1? Any and all suggetions are welcome. Would hate to go back to a 56K modem. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
