Am ready to take the plunge for the above for putting into my S900. Tried
all the usual suspects (OWC, SmallDog, even a global search on shopper.com)
and can't find this ZIF available for sale anywhere. Anybody know the best
source at the best price?

Pete, I'm under the impression the 800 & 900 G3's are no longer being made by IBM. So it is possible they are only available from old stock or used on ebay etc.
The good news is I emailed with a guy who is a beta tester for Powerlogix. He is currently testing the new G3 1000 MHz Zif. It has double the L2 cache (1mb) of the older G3 800/900 chip and perhaps other improvements. He's using it in a XLR8 Carrier card and says it works well. At this point Cache software seems to be the area that needs work rather then the Zif card. If all goes well Powerlogix should soon be selling it and OWC is planning on carrying it. A newsletter I get from OWC says they will bench test it when available.
I'm hoping it sells for bargain prices like the older Zif did. If so I'll likely buy one. Will S
