Hi, Barbara.

I have a machine that doesn't chime on a cold start
too. It's a 7600/Sonnet 400. I think it's a SCSI
thing. I have a bunch of 80 & 68 pin drives attached,
and only get chimes on rare occasions when I've had a
crash or something and everything gets reset. I
actually don't have any internal SCSI devices in there
anymore except a CD ROM. The CPU seemed to be running
hot with all those heaters in there so I took them
out. 

If you want to test my theory, simply unplug all the
drives and see if the chime comes back when you
restart. SCSI can be very fussy. I haven't figured out
why this happens. A Sonnet tech told me they had one
that acted that way too and to forget, but he may have
been trying to get rid of me. <Grin>
