That's a major consideration here(Oklahoma).  Part of the ugly is the 
rest of the computer.  No outer shell at all, various drives hanging 
wherever they fall, lots of dust everywhere since it lives in a shed 
with a dirt floor.  The ultimate in barebones computing.  I did check 
the voltage on the battery before I hooked it up.  It had been drawn 
down to 5 volts or so.  I figured the CMOS chips should handle that 
much over voltage.
