I'm also an amateur radio operator, not terribly active but have the ticket (AA8MG), so I see Heathkit rigs quite frequently at eyeball QSOs/swap fests. My first rig was a Swan 350. Tuning that up almost made the lights dim.
To further hijack this topic, if one could find some McIntosh audio gear from the 60s-70s, well, all those tubes will still give exceptional audio performance plus make an excellent space heater.
