I have an S900/G3/400MHz/784MB running under Jaguar 10.2.8 (+Classic) from one partition, and under OS 9.1 from another partition. I regularly use XPF to switch systems. It all runs effortlessly ... except for a few (grrr ... Microsoft!) things that don't.
Right now, my main problem is that I cannot seem to run MSN Messenger under OS 9.1, whereas it functions normally under Jag. Under 9.1, I am attempting to use MSN Messenger 2.1. (Any later version would require OS 9.2.2, which of course has issues for us J700 users). The two blue/green men spin and spin in an endless dance, but never connect. Then, inevitably, they time out, telling me I don't have a connection with the Internet (which of course I do ... ADSL). I have fed in my correct Hotmail address and password, but to no avail. The same ID works fine under Jag. And ICQ and Yahoo Messenger both work fine under both systems too. Any suggestions? I suspect some kind of internal JavaScript execution problem, perhaps, as Internet Explorer 5.1.4 also fails to execute scripts for me under OS 9.1. JavaScript-driven pages remain blank. Isn't MSN Messenger JavaScript-driven? Do we have the right kind of script-recognition on our Macs? Don't MS products use some kind of special "GatesScript" ... Or have I got that wrong? Maybe I should just quit and go for ICQ or Yahoo Messenger instead? (Trouble is, my boss loves Microsoft).
