--Eric (actually quite happy with 10.3.9, but curious)
Eric, If you've been reading the Mac websites you might know that a lot of people got their copy of Tiger early by mistake. I got my copy last Saturday! Several people had gotten developer versions of Tiger to run on old world macs using XPFacto. So I tried on my Umax. No luck doesn't even boot the CD with XPFacto. It seems that Apple has put in a ROM check and also a machine check that weren't in the earlier versions :-( According to one person Apple has for the first time put in a list of machines that if found cause the CD not to boot :-( While Jag & Panther have checks it is an approved list rather then a list not to run on. It is fairly easy to add a machines code to the list of approved machines. Removing a black listed machine will be different.I'm not sure what machines are on the black list other then the Beige G3 is on the list. Apple may be playing games with us again. I am sure a fix will be found and Ryan of XPFacto will be our main man on this. The info he needs to get XPFacto running will not be released until sometime after Tiger is officially released which is April 29th. It took like three months with Panther :-( We will see.
I am luck enough to also have a Pismo G3 firewire Power Book. Tiger installed and booted in like 20 min! I was expecting major changes from Panther. I've not ran it a lot yet. My impression is that is more like the change from Jag to Panther. Much the same with some new features. It also seems faster even on a machine that really needs more RAM.
My Umax is running so well with 10.3.8 I've been holding off on 10.3.9 as it's been buggy for some people. Sounds like your happy with it? Will S
