Just out of curiosity, have any of you guys seen and/or played with a SuperMac J-710? I understand only a handful were made, never going into full-scale production. Just thought I'd stir things up a bit.

I really wanted one of these when they showed up. At least a handful were offered for sale on this list by one of the Umax guys other then Kennedy . Didn't have the money and or price was a bit high at the time. If you go to the SuperMac archive site you will see that the J-710 is oddly named. It uses the C500 case and an improved C500 motherboard more or less. It has next to nothing in common with the J700 or S900. It also uses the same CPU Zif slot that both the C500/600 used. But came with 604e 200MHz or G3 250 MHz cpu's neither of which were ever sold for the C machines as far as I can tell. I am lucky enough to own one of the Umax G3 250 CPU's made for the J 710. It fits just fine in my C500 and runs well! I got it from a guy on ebay a long time ago . He bought it in a box of stuff and had no idea what it was. I knew what it was right away from the description he gave of it. They had been talked about here by one of the Umax guys. There were like 6 of them left over at the end that lacked J 710 machines for them. It can be plugged right in the Zif slot on the C500 where it runs @ 40MHz bus or I decided to live dangerously and plugged it into the cache doubler card where it runs at 80 MHz bus just fine. It is also possible to run OSX on the C500 using this Zif card but with 144 MB RAM not going to be fast. I've not had it running for sometime now. At least one list member (Niles? ) has OSX running on a C600 with G3 Zif which isn't possible with the L2 upgrades . Will S
