Dave, was your 1 GHz card a 750FX or 750GX card? The 1 GHz cards they're selling now are 750GX based. The GX has 1 MB L2 cache as compared to the 512KB of the FX. So the 900 MHz 750FX is $139 and the 1 GHz 750GX is $199.

The reason I ask is that the GX has some additional features/functions in its cache handling and I'm wondering if a failure to take these into account in the software could have been the root of your problem.

 I can't remember wether I tried 2.0b1 which is
listed at OWC's site.

When I bought my card back <snip> I think, but I'm not sure, that 1.5f6 and 2.1 were the only
 versions available
