I seriously doubt there will be any clones as long as Jobs is running
the Apple show. Jobs was pretty serious about not selling licenses for
clones and he's right. It's a smart business decision.
I miss not having any competition but as long as Apple makes quality
products I don't really care because the prices are dropping every
year. It's amazing to think about what you can get for $3,000.00 now.
What could you get back in the 80's or 90's for 3 grand ?

The x86 Macs are gonna be so proprietary that running OS X on anything
else is going to be really difficult. I know they are doing it now but
that is the developers release of x86 OS X and the official public
release will not be anywhere near that easy to put on any peecee box.

I'm just glad there was a Clone era. It kinda kicked Apple in the ass
and forced them to get back on track or loose the race. Competition is
good for the consumer and the manufacturer. It's like the Japanese
cars in the 80's. American cars had become junk and the foreign car
makers were kicking our butts. American cars are still junk if you ask
me but they did get better.

Macs got better too but still had some issues. CRT iMac analog boards
for example........
I have a feeling that the common peecee buyer may be more likely to
buy a Mac because of the Intel connection. The majority of home
computer buyers don't have a clue about computers and that will make
them think that Macs are compatible with the rest of the world now. As
if they haven't been.......

Remember - Windoze was made to keep idiots off Macs !
I just had no idea there were that many idoits out there.

I'm going to stick with my PPC Macs for a couple more years and see
what they come up with. If they can come up with a killer Powerbook
with a new Intel M chip I may consider buying one sooner. It would
have to be a lot better than my G4 PB though and that's going to be
tough to do. I've used several different top end x86 laptops and none
are really very impressive. But I may be a little biased and Windoze
may be part of what is not impressive about them.
