Actually, it's not "a lot". On my workstation I've 25. Typical server use
up to 15 of these 25. And only few of them are non-trivial:
- ones which use chroot and needs to update files/libs in their root
- i2p
- mysql (trap TERM and do mysqladmin shutdown)
- vmware (wrapper around /etc/init.d/vmware-tools)
