Understood - and you're right; the MOV files I looked at were not created by an Elphel.
After downloading an Elphel-created MOV file, sure enough - the JPEG tags are in there. Thanks for your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: Andrey Filippov To: Brian Burke Cc: [email protected] Sent: Friday, February 19, 2010 12:38 PM Subject: Re: [Elphel-support] 100 fps questions However, looking through some files, I can only recognize the JPEG SOI tag (FF D8 FF E0) in .jpg and .avi files - not in .mov or .ogg files. I presume this is due to the "compression" that comes with the container. Will I need to "uncompress" the MJPEG into an AVI in order to parse through the JPEG's, or is there a way (a different set of tags?) to parse the MOV directly? Sorry if these are "beginner" questions, but that's pretty much what I am! Brian, Which MOV files did you try - ones from Elphel camera? There can be virtually anything inside that container, including "sequence of JPEG images including Exif headers with directory data before the frames", but the quoted applies to the files produced by Elphel cameras, not to any MOV file.
