The C-mount is a standard. The adapter you found will work. However, because of the crop <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_factor> you will get a smaller field of view and the canon lens will arguably provide a better quality than a 1/2.5" format equivalent (same FOV but for 1/2.5"). Here's what we usually reply about selecting lenses: We use the Micron 5 Mpix Sensor in Elphel cameras, format 1/2.5" (7mm > diagonal) so the lens has to be 1/2" format. The standard lens we recommend with Elphel cameras is 3Mpix Varifocal lens > H3Z4518CS-MPIR. > However you are welcome to choose lens, for example from: > http://www.rmaelectronics.com/lenses.htm > just keep in mind 1/2" or 1/2.5" format of the lens, that is compatible > with the 5Mpix Aptina sensor in Elphel cameras. > Lens manufacturers specify (when they do) "megapixel" resolution for the > full lens format. Let's consider the 2/3" format lens that claims to be "5 > MPix" (HF12.5SA-1 http://www.rmassa.com/manu/fujinon.htm ). 2/3" format > corresponds to the image size diameter 11mm. > The sensor we use has diagonal of 7.1mm, so let's see how many pixels out > of 5MPix will get to the sensor: > 5Mpix*(7.1mm/11mm)^2 ~=2.1Mpix > So we need to have "10 MPix" 2/3" sensor (there are some new ones, about > $700) to nearly match the sensor (will still be some 4.2MPix, not 5). > With 1" (16mm diagonal) things will be even worse.
