Sensor line is 2592x2.2um=5.7mm, so for the low distortion (rectilinear) lens
you need f= 5.7mm*(12ft/40ft) =1.71mm.
The horizontal field of view = 2*atan((40ft/2)/12ft) ~=118 degrees, so you may
check lens specs with the focal length around the 1.71mm if it has sufficient
HFOV for the 1/2.5" sensor - these wide angle lenses are "fisheye" type and
have strong barrel distortion, so you may need a lens with somewhat longer
focal length than calculated for the rectilinear, f~=2.0mm.

>What is the maximum size of Compact Flash card the camera will support - 4G,
>8G etc.?
It can be 16GB, just the card should support DMA mode - many support only UDMA
claiming that they support DMA also, and Axis CPU used in the camera does not
work properly with UDMA. We will post the list of the cards that we know to
work correctly.

>Is it possible to mount an internal mSATA SSD instead of the internal 1.8 HDD?

We tried that with older card from the EEEPC
(http://wiki.elphel.com/index.php?title=EEEPC_SSD_SATA_Adapter) - basically
what became known as mSATA (mSATA is just a little shorter). The main problem
in putting mSATA inside is that the SATA connector is on the back panel, so the
cable comes out. But with some hacking it is possible,

And the mSATA will be a standard feature for the 393 camera that I'm working on
now.
