Check your about:config for browser. sessionhistory. max_entries to
make sure it's not set to some ridiculous low number like 0 or 1,
maybe.

browser. sessionhistory. max_entries
Integer
The maximum number of pages in the browser's session history, i.e. the
maximum number of URLs you can traverse purely through the
Back/Forward buttons. Default value is 50.

It might also be some extension gone crazy that is messing up your UI.
I've had problems where I can open URLs by typing them into the
address bar but cannot click any links or buttons.
