The only way I could get it to work was to create an entry
'video/x-ms-wmv' pointing to VLC in the Navigator > Helper Applications
table.

black screen in a browser window that tells me 'waiting for video'- then
nothing happens. I close that browser window click on the attachment and
it opens ok in VLC.
