When I try to send mail I get the following message:
"Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to authenticate to SMTP server
smtp.(etc). It does not support authentication (SMTP-AUTH) but
you have chosen to use authentication. Uncheck 'Use name and password'
for that server or contact your service provider."
Also, it has never asked me for a password. What happens if I uncheck
"use name and password"?
It should work... and your connection will go through.
....and "Use Secure Authentication" is not checked.
When I had that problem with 2.ob1, these instructions cleared up my
problem:
To be sure we're talking about the same settings, go to Edit -> Mail
& Newsgroups Account Settings, Outgoing Server (SMTP) then select
your SMTP server, and click on the *Edit* button.
Under Security and Authentication, make sure "Use name and password"
is NOT checked. Under Use secure connection, select NO.
Hope this helps you...

Oh, ya, that does, actually....either I'm going mad or senile or...??
It seems all the other messages were saying to uncheck "use secure
authentication". Anyway, talked to my ISP and found out that this
setting is not required and not a privacy concern, either. It just
seemed kinda "iffy" to me. He also mentioned that SM is the first
browser he's heard of that sets this setting automatically.
