Regarding SM 2.x migration from earlier SM versions or even from other Email products that SM is or will be importing from: Preface: Regardless if you are using Linux, Mac or Windows:
1. Have SM 2.x as part of it's migration or update from earlier version SM do this: 2. Have a separate or internal migration code display two panels side by side, sync them or not. 3. Have the file names of importance + their COMPLETE PATH data shown above each panel. 4. Have SM ASK, REPEAT: ASK !!!! -- the end user and advise" "Here is your older info/as it exists now. On the right is the panel of what the new info in SM 2 will look like. Please select (A)ll or some of the left panel to copy over to the right panel. 5. When done, SM will copy the above info you have selected, either All of it or what you have selected. 6. SM will then verify that the copy/transfer went properly, and that the new SM records are correct and ready for use. 7. At that time, you will be able to safety backup your old records and they will be available to you should the need arise to either go back to an older SM version, or to repeat this process again. 8. Thank you and have a good day. Now...if the above can not be done, then stop developing SM 2, as it's clear that any and all programmers and "staff" are either incapable or totally ignoring others, and thus programming SM2 to THEIR liking, not the end-user and of course themselves too, as we are all users, and we all obviously want to be. Clear?? Now, the above DOES work, it's been done, with suitable modifications as appropriate of course, to MANY other applications -- regardless of WIndows, Linux, Mac -- some of which have had somewhat similar migration problems, or some of which everyone involved wanted to minimize such problems. Users are happy, programmers stay happy, people get on with their lives rather than keep on complaining that something is junk or ill made, or badly thought out, ad nauseam.
