I assume you mean SeaMonkey 1.1.18. If this is not correct, please
disregard and explain what you're using.
It's not clear to me what you mean, so I'm having to guess. Have
a look at edit -> preferences -> Navigator -> Languages, then
under Spelling:
When typing check my spelling: [ ... ]
It sounds to me like you want to select Never.

Looks like that did it! I thougt I'd found all the spell check options,
