That's debatable. If what you say is true, the server is doing something which the application is not dealing with, and it should. Given that your dialog eventually goes away on its own, perhaps it's a different problem? I've seen this on my own, local SMTP server. This lives on my local network. My network is never very busy. Of course, this doesn't mean that it's not a timeout of some kind, but it seems unlikely.
