and SeaMonkey refuses to connect to the web server.

For whatever it's worth, this is at work, IE makes the connection
without any fussing& I have no idea what (or if)
certificates/certificate servers have been added to IE.

Lee, do you need to be using SSL?? If not, try de-selecting it at
Edit->Mail&Newsgroup Account Settings, select "Server Settings" for your
mail account and de-select "Use secure authentication".

Lee, from reading another thread here, I see that you can also have to set this on the outgoing side.....Edit->Mail&Newsgroup Account Settings, down the bottom of the left hand side is your Outgoing Server, select your outgoing server, select Edit, and de-select "Use Secure authentication".
