Some .doc files present the opening option, while others offer save only. In either case, the box that pops up offering one or both options clearly identifies that the download as a "Word document", so the system seems to know what sort of file it is - it just sometimes offers save only and sometimes gives the open or save options. Just a quirk of my particular Linux/SM combination, I guess. Not disastrous, but quite annoying.
