I have discovered the following issues with Download Manager (DM):
(Basically, the same functionality of SM 1.1.18 needs to be carried
forward/restored in 2.0.5.)
Currently, 2.0.5 DM lacks the following:
1 -- If the DM in 2.0.5 is enabled and is either minimized or not the
primary window on the desk top, SM 2.0.5 always brings it to the
foreground (primary window) when any type of download is invoked from
an email link, email attachment, or web page element. SM 1.1.18 did
not do this in that the state of the DM window was never changed upon
initiating a download. This 2.0.5 version creates a major hassle
because it requires the user to constantly re-minimize the DM window
in order to continue with whatever following downloads the user wishes
to pursue. This becomes very annoying very quickly. The DM is often
used to record a history of downloads. But the only way around this
problem is to shut the DM off, which means that no download history is
recorded.
2 -- In the SM 2.0.5 Edit/Preferences/Browser/Downloads settings
window, you currently have the following:
When starting a download:
[_] Flash the Download Manager if it's already open.
Otherwise:
( ) Open the Download Manager
( ) Open a progress dialog
( ) Don't open anything
You should add these options to that list:
When the Download Manager is minimized:
(x) it should be brought to the foreground (default)
( ) it should stay minimized
When the Download Manager is not the primary window:
(x) it should be brought to the foreground (default)
( ) it should remain in the background
3 -- The DM history records from 1.1.18 were not migrated over to
2.0.5 when the conversion was done. That history needs to be
preserved because sometimes it is necessary to do a re-download of a
file. The DM history provided a very convenient way of finding that
file and the URL with with to re-download it from.
4 -- It would be nice to be able to save a DM history records off to a
file. This way, a person can keep the DM clean and to a minimum and
yet still have access to the history of prior downloads. This should
include the functionality of being able to select which records to
save off. And as those are saved, they would then be removed from the
DM history window.
