Can one download the full SeaMonkey 2.0.5 file and then install it over
(i.e., on top of) an existing 2.0.4 installation (on a PC running
XP-Pro) without any problems or must the existing 2.0.4 installation be
deinstalled first before the 2.0.5 files are installed?
If you simply do Help - Check for Updates - and simply let SM update
itself you'll be fine.
If you download the installation file

I'd uninstall the old version before updating just to be safe.
I still don't understand why the old version might need to be
deinstalled but the relatively new 'Check for Updates' capability
certainly works well enough and is really easy to use. Kudos to whoever
arranged for its inclusion in SM.
Uninstalling the old version ans installing the new version, per
example, permit you to have less old SM entries in the registry.
i always do this way without any hassle or difficulties.
