Never mind.  I removed and then reinstalled Adobe Reader (expecting
someone else would suggest that).  Now it works okay.

But something in the way it was previously installed really clobbered
SeaMonkey.  I got three crashes in a half hour trying to capture the
text of the error popup and the headers.  Fortunately, I did not have to
remove and reinstall SeaMonkey.
