How does one get the latest Flash Player for Seamonkey? They've changed
their *&#$ing site so that it wants to install an "Add On" to Seamonkey,
which won't install because it's not FireFox.

I changed the setting to bypass Compatibility checking so it installs...
but it won't RUN because it says you're not running Firefox!!

They USED to have a web link where you could get the Windows Installer
file directly, but that link has disappeared. How the *&^# are we
supposed to get the latest fixes if those JACKASSES take away the
SIMPLEST way of installing... you know... the way that actually WORKED???

This is where I obtained the latest version from...

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I'm running SM 2.0.7 if that helps any.

Maybe that stupid extension of their's works under 2.0.7, but it doesn't
with 2.0.7, which is what I'm running.

Get your terminology straight. Flash is a plugin not an extension. It
doesn't even reside in the SeaMonkey directory or in your profile.

The terminology IS correct. The Adobe site wants to install an extension
called the Adobe DLM. If it works the way the ActiveX component on
Explorer works, once the extension is installed, then IT downloads the
plugin. I don't want or need the bloody extension, I just want the
plugin. I don't need an extension to install the plugin for me. I just
want to download the damned plugin and install it the same way it's
worked for over a decade.

I DO know what I'm talking about.

Well, I don't know where or why you are getting an extension.

Using SeaMonkey, I went to<http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/> and
downloaded install_flash_player.exe. I then terminated SeaMonkey and
disabled my Internet connection. When I double-clicked on
install_flash_player.exe, Flash 10.1 r82 was installed on my C-drive at
[c:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash].  After re-enabling my Internet
connection, a test at<http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/>   was
successful.

There was no extension and no Adobe DLM.

My configuration is (in part):

Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1 (service pack 3)

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.11)
Gecko/20100701 SeaMonkey/2.0.6

I don't know why, but my experience with the Adobe Flash download is not
the same as yours. When I go to the web page you list above, I'm greeted
with Install Adobe Flash Player and a yellow box that says Agree and
install now. When I click on that box, Adobe tries to install the Adobe
DLM, http://platformdl.adobe.com/NOS/getPlusPlus/1.6/gp.xpi and that
fails because it says Incompatible Extension, Adobe DLM 1.6.2.90 could
not be installed because it is not compatible with SM 2.0.6.

I'm also using XP with all the updates, and SM 2.0.6.

When I go to<http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/> and click on the "Agree
and install now" button -- I tried it again just now -- I get a
file-selection window titled "Enter name of file to save to...". In
that window, I navigate to my standard [D:\downloads\software] directory
to save the installer file.

What extensions do you already have installed? Mine are:
Extensions (enabled: 7)
* Adblock Plus 1.2.2 (http://adblockplus.org/)
* DOM Inspector 2.0.4 (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/inspector/)
* Flashblock 1.3.16 (http://flashblock.mozdev.org/)
* Live HTTP headers 0.16
* PrefBar 5.1.1 (http://prefbar.mozdev.org/)
* Show Password On Input 0.1.3
(https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/addon/6143/)
* ShowIP 0.8.19 (http://code.google.com/p/firefox-showip/)

I temporarily disable Flashblock to test the new installation of Flash.
  Disabling Flashblock before going to
<http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/> has no impact on downloading the
installer file.

How do I make a list of my extensions? I don't have an extension that would block the install of the Adobe Download Manager. The error is the extension is not compatible with SM 2.0.6. As I said a long time ago, I was able to find the .exe file and install Flash that way.

What's strange is you don't have the extension Adobe DLM and when you click on the install button you are given the option to save the file. I don't get that option. I like your way better but it's not offered to me. Hmmmm.
