"recently" as in you haven't installed anything new or changed anything on your system? The traditional advice is to clear your cache, delete temporary files & defrag the hard drive. None of that worked for me :( It turned out the hard drive was going bad & the os (or the disk?) was spending a lot of time retrying i/o and/or doing error correction. You might want to check your hard drive.
