Do you have compatibility checking turned off in about:config? You need to have the regular compatibility disable, then another disable, both set true. Then an install will tell you the extension is incompatible, but will install it most of the time.

Very Windows-like, sort of "don't check" and "yes, really don't check" as though it was hard to believe the first time.

This is a 2.1beta(daily) running on a VM, it manages to load most things if told firmly enough to stop checking and start trying.
