Found solution to my prob.
Since new to Win 7 did not have any awareness of the habit
Win volume mixer has, to create a volume separate level for
different applications.

Good to know. I am getting rid of Win 7 on the company
laptop this weekend and putting XP3 on it.
XP drivers ARE available.
I don't like Win 7 at all.
