Quite often these days, when I click on a link

I have even had the browser exit entirely.

I've never seen this before a few weeks ago.

Bill,

This is not unusual, nor is it new.
When you open a page with this action hover your mouse over the link and
read your browser "Status Bar" (very bottom of the open window) and read
the command. If it reads something like mailto it is the web page coding.

Years ago we used this command to open the visitors mail program for
easy contact. The problrm with this method came with SPAMERS collecting
valid e-mail addresses and selling to SPAM genertors known as SPAM Spyders.

Then we developed JavaScripts to hide and parse the "mailto" command and
hide the mail address. The Spyders could not read and parse the command
into an e-mail address.

How does Javascript hide the email address? I would imagine that a spyder that accessed the source could still read the email addy even if a user could not see it.
