If so, then is there a way to disable it?

SM 2.1 (ETA next week) will support all accelerations Firefox 4
supports, i.e. D2D, D3D etc. but you can easily disable them all via
Preferences. AFAIK SM 2.0 has none of these.

I am trying to figure out why I get very rare and random hard lock
ups when multitasking with SeaMonkey v2.0.x (usually have over 20
tabs going) and watching videos.

If your browser locks up, it might be any of these:
- Memory leak in the application code. Not much you can do there other than upgrading.
- Faulty add-ons. Try disabling some.
- Faulty plugins. Try removing some (in SM 2.1 you can just disable them, and if Flash crashes, it won't take down SeaMonkey anymore). - MailNews checks news in the background. Rare but known issue; try disabling automatic check of newsgroups.
