Now, since I've been using it more often the bug hasn't occured lately.
Could it have been old profile stuff that messed things up? And which clean
(themselves) up after a while?

Still happening here. Appears to be page-specific. Clicking Reload kicks it
into gear.
One of a number of page load problems that seem to be javascript-related. IE,
disabling js temporarily makes the problems go away.
