Do you mean "-- " (dash-dash-space)? That cannot be avoided. Just delete it from the top. But, at least for newsgroup messages, you are supposed to have that just before your actual signature. It goes on a line by itself. There is a proposed standard (for all news readers, not just Thunderbird) that specifies this. If you insert "-- " into your prepared "header-and-signature", it will show you where to start composing. You start just before that line. -- David E.
