 - open SM Composer window
 - click the Open icon on toolbar (or select Open File... from the File
menu)
 - browse and select a .html file on your system
 - click the Open button.

What happens? Any error message?

All I can suggest offhand is to try a restart with add-ons disabled.

It works OK for me in SM v2.2, except I occasionally get a message about a
busy script. I have no idea why, but it works when I try again.
