I agree with you that 2.2 is a mess on several points. It seems like it is more like IE than even Firefox.
Here is my question: Did you have any install problems going back to 2.1? I am hesitant to just run the install file and hope it removes 2.2, as there have been past glitches in the history of Mozilla/Seamonkey when it comes to up/downgrading. Things I dislike about 2.2: Password manager is less functional, the "Find" function opens a new toolbar, rather than the old floating one that did not cause your page to shift down, the query whether to remember passwords is awkward, 2.2 now automatically runs a Javascript on a site I use frequently that was optional on 2.1 (it messes up the formatting of text input), Composer does not display images correctly during HTML editing, lots of little things that are just awkward or less functional. Although 2.2 is probably more secure, and handles HTML better, its usability is definitely lower. I also get the impression (no data) that it runs slower. I have been a loyal user since the first Netscape, and hate to see Seamonkey become homogenized just like the other guys. That's what Firefox (yuck!) is for. Input is appreciated on the mechanism for rolling back to 2.1.
