Duh... I just realized that I am running the 32-bit Oneiric rather than the 64-bit due to the fact that Oneiric is running in VirtualBox (Win7 64-bit is the host) rather than in it's own partition: $ uname -a Linux oneiric 3.0.0-8-generic #11-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 12 20:20:03 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux That is why the 32-bit version of SeaMonkey is working (albeit with the 'failed to create drawable' messages).
