Oh!  Now I see it.  And I think I've figured out something.

If you start viewing the page with Flashblock enabled, the site sets a
cookie that does not get cleared if you then disable Flashblock.  That
prevents displaying the Flash presentation.

I cleared all news.com.au cookies, disabled FlashBlock, and accepted ALL
images (not merely those from the domain I was viewing).  Then I
reloaded the page.  I was able to view the Flash video.

Strangely, when Flashblock was enabled, I did not see the circled-f icon
indicating the presence of a Flash presentation.
