Due to the bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=595696
i do a "forward" instead of a "reply" and i just type per exemple
something like:
Hello,
Please see my answers in the text of your maik.
Best Regard,
Ray.
And under the "forward" heading:

I add a line under some sentence with my reply text.
then, when i am happy with the mail, i do a spell-check to discover
errors.
The spell-check discover "maik", highlight it... and i correct it with
"mail".
So far so good, but now the spell-checker goes wrong.
It did not highlight a word at all, but show an unexpected word not
present in the mail, and after i do ignore, he continue with another
unexpected word not present in the mail, i do ignore, and this fancy
thing continue forever.
The added lines under some sentence of the original mail cannot be
checked. But words in error are higlighted with red "~" signs.
So i cannot use spell-check under the "forward" heading.
I use under Windows 7 - 32 bits - professionnal the SM version:
Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20110608
Firefox/4.0.1 SeaMonkey/2.1
Nobody have tried this ? The spell-checker get creasy - i have
re-tested on another mail coming from the same guy who uses Outlook.
I have re-tested on a mail from guy who use SM - no problem.
I have re-tested a "reply" with a mail from the guy who use Outlook.
This time, all seems well, the spell-checker see all errors, except
when a do a reply without eliminating the left vertical bar.
This is a very complex situation.
The result is that the spell-checker did not work correctly if you do
a forward or a reply on a received outlook mail. Not correct with a
"reply" and creasy/fancy with a "forward".
I know that you will *always* blame microsoft, it's your devil :-)
I tested on Windows 7 SeaMonkey 2.4.1
Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0.1)
Gecko/20110928 Firefox/7.0.1 SeaMonkey/2.4.1 and you are correct that
spelling checking appears broken on Reply and Forward if you do not
have "Spellcheck as you type selected". I use spellcheck as you type
and have not seen a problem with it, but turned it off to test your
complaint. It seems really erratic in it's behavior. And I don't
think it is just mail coming from Outlook, I don't think it matters
where it came from. In fact I tried it on reply to some of these news
posts and it was messed up on them. It doesn't seem to check the
quoted text unless you mark the text, and then it doesn't seem to
always do the same thing. Very odd behavior and not always the same.
Try using "spellcheck as you type" under Options, it appears to work
correctly for me.
Jim
