See also my thread, news://news.mozilla.org:119/[email protected], which calls out a complete freeze of Mail, without Composition or actively downloading messages. And the CPU shows no usage.
I am happy to say that SM works faultlessly here - 1 XP machine and 2 32 bit 7 machines.
