Probably you have checked 'Use Global inbox' when creating the account.

Your SM 1.1 is rather old and it may be, that the check box was filled
automatically at this time and had to be manually unchecked. Too long
ago for my memory. ;)

Thanks very much !
I removed that account and added it back and left the "Use Global Inbox"
unchecked and it appeared in the left panel - i.e. it worked.
