Why don't you just subscribe to the RSS (Atom, in fact) news feed that is available from the website? I even made it more obvious with the release of 2.6: Now the feed icon appears in the location bar if you visit the front page.
Otherwise I'm sure Callek will eventually post an announcement. Please keep in mind that we're all volunteers, and there are only so many hours in a day (think job, illness, buying presents, you name it).
