and let us know what you find. After all that's what I'd do to answer

Which is what I did and found nothing announcing the availability of SM
2.6.1. hence my original post.

Hence, you found your answer. Nope, it wasn't announced here or on the
dev group, only on RSS.
For the record, I found my problem with my attempt at announcing 2.6.1....
I did an "Edit as new" for an old announcement, that included all the
proper newsgroups, however I also sent it from an account that is only
e-mail :/
And my SeaMonkey for some reason didn't warn me of that (I recall it
used to)...
I'll have to investigate in the future to try and figure out why it
didn't warn and get a bug on file, if one already isn't present. Eitehr
way, I'm re-sending in a short time from now.
