I'm in Version 2.0 now - I had to reluctantly abandon 1.1 for 2.0 and
now there is a 2.4....

I had it start to update to 2.4 but worry that all will get screwed up.

Would like to download it myself and then install it myself.

Where (subdirectory) was the automatic update going to download into ?
Would it have overwritten the 2.0 ?

I don't trust "Automatic" stuff anymore.

So - my question is - should I go for 2.4 or is a lower numbered
version
better - i.e less bugs right now ?

DoctorBill

OMG - I was wrong ! It is up to 2.6.1 !

What does it do - sing and dance for you ?

Seriously - it probably does !

Doctor Bill a couple of days ago, Cliff was asking about upgrading from
V 2.0.14, so I posted the following...............

Cliff, I think there was a change in the way SM did things in version
2.1, so, if I were you, I'd update from your current V 2.0.14 to V 2.1
and then update from V 2.1 to V 2.4.1 or even to the just released V
2,6,1.

Install 2.1 into a different location to your current version, and it
will create a copy of your profile, then you can install V 2.4.1 (or
2.6.1) over the top of this V 2.x.1 (and then you can uninstall your V
2.0.14, but keep the profile - always good to have a back-up).

Report back here if you have any problems.

Let us know how you go DoctorBill.

Alright....I have 2.1, 2.4 and 2.6 downloaded on my memory stick.

I know where 1.1's profile files are - everything I want to keep is
there. I backed it up to a memory stick.

Are ALL the versions of SeaMonkey going to be installed on
C:\Documents and Settings\DoctorBill\Application
Data\Mozilla\Seamonkey\Profiles ?

No, DoctorBill, I don't know exactly where SM 1.1 puts it's profile (because I install things where *I* want them), but I'm sure when you install SM 2.0, it will find your old profile and make a suitable copy of the profile in a suitable, different, location.

I would like to be able to find them ALL (1.1, 2.0, 2.1, then 2.4 and
2.6) when the Feces hits the fan (as it were and if it does).

I think, when you install SM 2.0, *you* will tell SM 2.0 where to put the new profile. The later versions will then use this new copy.

I realize that to all you expurts this probably seems silly and
unnecessary, but I have been thru a lot of confusion and wasted time
over the years when upgrading to new versions of software.

DoctorBill, I'm sure you are aware that the only stupid question is the un-asked question!

So I am very leery of changing versions !
I especially LOVE changing versions of Windows !
