You cannot use a profile created with (I believe)any version of
SeaMonkey lower than v2.1 with a version of Seamonkey higher than v2.1.
You need to migrate your profile from SeaMonkey 1.1 to 2.1 because
major changes were made to how things are stored by the profile. Then
you can update to v2.6.1.
Since I use a Mac I checked an earlier thread and found the Windows
instructions to perform the upgrade including the migration of your
profile. As always make sure you back up your profile before starting
just in case. And remember Do not use any profile created with SeaMonkey
1.1 with SeaMonkey v2.6.1 as the profile will become corrupted and unusable.

I think there was a change in the way SM did things in version 2.1, so,
if I were you, I'd update from your current V 1.1 to V 2.1 and then
update from V 2.1 to V 2.6.1.
Install 2.1 into a different location to your current version, and it
will create a copy of your profile [automatically], then you can install
V2.6.1 over the top of this V 2.x.1 (and then you can uninstall your V
1.1, but keep the profile - always good to have a back-up).
Report back here if you have any problems."

All three of the Profiles seem spread out all over the place.
I know where to find SM 1.1's "Profile" directory. OK there.
Where is SM 2.6.1's profile to be found AND how can I differentiate it
from 2.0's profile ?
Everybody asks this....how do I get my 1.1 files (mail, favorites,
passwords, etc) into 2.6.1 ?
