The other day I noticed a new folder in my SM lineup called Archives.
What caused that to show up? Was it part of v.2.5 SM and I never noticed
it until now?
From time to time, I notice new messages in there, in sub-folders
titled 2011 or 2012. I don't recall setting up rules to move messages
there.
What's going on, please?
I guess you pressed Shift+A at some point in time...
Cf. Edit / Mail& Newsgroups Account Settings /<account> / Copies&
Folders / Archive Options
I never did this, but "Shift-A" is such a common keystroke combination
that I can't believe any competent designer would use it for a specific
function.
I see that all my accounts are set to create archives, which is
disturbing because I used to have folders by that name, with contents,
and they're gone!
That sounds like a critical bug. Have you filed a bug report?
Not yet, for several reasons:
1) I recently had a computer crash (thought it was bad RAM, turned out
to be a bad motherboard), so some files that I thought were backed up
turned out to be corrupted. I've been gradually going through older and
older versions to recover what I can, which brings me to:
2) I didn't have my folder structure memorized, so I can't be absolutely
sure off the top of my head what's missing and what's intact and what's
just my approaching senility. If I file a bug, I want to be sure to
speak accurately; I don't want to guess or fudge and waste someone's time.
3) I've never filed a bug before, so there'll be a learning curve, and
right now I'm focused on learning Windows 7 (not the same as WinXP) and
meeting deadlines. The new machine is way faster, but not everything is
where I left it, and not everything works the same way.
Still, I brought the issue up in case others have experienced it and
have a better handle on it.
