Hmm. When you enabled checking, you reset the
extensions.CheckCompatibility pref to its default (true) value. For some
reason, the Reporter does not provide UI to reset it to "false."

BUT, I think it DOES set it to "false" when initially installed. So, you
might try REMOVING the Add-on Compatibility Reporter and then
reinstalling it.

Failing that, you can manually set the pref to "false" in about:config.
I remember doing so in the early days of SM 2.1.

What surprised me on checking about:config is that there are now
something like 50 variants of that pref, apparently to deal with
specific cases. I don't know if those are part of the new "compatible by
default" approach, or if the Reporter set them. They are all set to
"false" in my copy.
