JAS, this is just a WAG on my part.
SM Suite is a complex application composed of many, many parts all
working together to provide us with an internet suite.
When a security threat is found a patch is developed to close the
threat. The patch may be targeted at one, or several parts. Any patch
may have unintended consequences on other parts, and if there are
several parts where the patch is targeted the whole system may be affected.
It is much easier to write a patch for a threat to a targeted part and
smoke test the whole application as a new install then to send out the
targeted part with the patch and risk catastrophic failure on thousands
of users.
It doesn't bother me to download the whole installation and install it
as new because I uninstall the previous version before installing the
newer version. I have learned the hard way and take my lessons seriously.
