A profile is a sub-directory. You can have as many as you want available, and you can put them anywhere you want. If you want one profile to have some of the same data as another, just copy the relevant files from the first over the files in the second.
If you want a post sqlite version of SM to have the same data as an pre sqlite version, make a copy of the older profile with a name that has some meaning to you, then have the new version create a new profile and tell it to use the copy you just made. It will update it. You can use a 1X profile to go to sqlite level.
