I just finished going through a very traumatic event...having to replace
my C Drive information with data from a September 11, 2011 backup. My
biggest loss during this change was my SeaMonkey
messages...bookmarks...addresses...and I'm sure more that I haven't
noticed at this time.

QUESTION
Is it possible to move SeaMonkey data/profile files to a drive other
than my C drive? I currently have all of SeaMonkey loaded on my C drive.
My hard drive is partitioned into two drives--C and E. I would like to
move the above mentioned information/files to my E drive that contains
all of my other data files.

How does one accomplish such a move without making a total wreck of my
computer?

Also, what are the pros and cons of making such a move? What happens
when a new version is loaded on my computer?

Any thoughts, recommendations, guidance, or simple "how-to" instructions
will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Frog, it is....at one time I had my Windows set up so that C: only
had Windows system stuff, D: had programs and E: had all my user stuff
such as SeaMonkey Profile stuff.

1. Have a look at Edit->Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings, and select
Server Settings for your email accounts. This is where you profile is now.

2. Close SeaMonkey.

3. Use your File Manager to create a folder at the new location you want
to have your profile. You may have noted your current profile location
has something like drfbghy.default in its route, it is not necessary to
have this, you could make the new location as simple as D:Profile or
even just D: (not recommended).

4. Go to the location that currently has your profile

5. Copy everything from this location to the new location.

6. Restart SeaMonkey, select Tools->Manage Profiles->Manage
Profile->Create Profile and, on the second screen, Give your new profile
a distinctive names and then select "Choose Folder" and go to where you
copied your profile to.

Report back if you have any problems.

Daniel,

The more that I look into moving my profile to another location the more I'm not sure what will happen when that action is taken. My present situation is attributable to the lack of knowledge on my part...pure and simple. Let me describe for you what I am seeing and why I am not sure of what the outcome will be of this action.

I completed step one of your instructions, and here is what I found:

C:\Documents and Settings\Frog\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ef6mjiq9.default\incoming.verizon.net

I decided to visit this location using Windows Explorer and found the following: (F- = Folder)

F-Mozilla
     F-Extensions
          F-{String of numbers/letters.}
          [email protected]
     F-Profiles
          F-Frog-SeaM
               F-g64n48iz.slt
                    F-chrome
                    F-Mail
                    F-News
     F-SeaMonkey
          F-Crash Reports
               F-pending
               F-Submitted
          F-Profiles
               F-ef6mjiq9.default
                    F-bookmark backups
                    F-chrome
                    F-extensions
                         F-{String of numbers/letters.}
                         F-{String of numbers/letters.}
                    F-Mail
                         F-incoming.verizon.net
                         F-Local Folders
                              F-Archives.sbd
                              F-Trash.sbd
                    F-minidumps
                    F-News
                         F-msnews.microsoft
                         F-news
                         F-news.mozilla.org
                    F-weave
                         F-changes
                         F-toFetch
               F-OLD5v3u71bc.default

The first "F-Profile" folder relates to an old version of SeaMonkey that remains on my computer. This profile is seldom used and would not be a great loss of data if it was ever lost. Thus, I'm not attempting to move this profile from my C drive to my E drive. I note an entry under this profile that pertains to TomTom (my GPS device). I believe it would be difficult to change the location of this entry, as it would involve making changes to the TomTom setup settings (something I don't know how to accomplish).

Starting at the "F-SeaMonkey" folder is the area that I would like to move from my C drive to my E drive. I want to have all of my messages downloaded to my E drive, and I want all of my addresses/bookmarks also moved to my E drive. Additionally, I want to have all of my newsgroup activities taking place on my E drive.

Now for my need for some clarification--- What of the above do I copy and paste to my new folder on my E drive? I think it would be from F-SeaMonkey (my profile name)through F-toFetch. Is that correct?

Now, hoping that I have everything copied correctly to my new folder on my E drive, I am supposed to create a new profile, correct? Assuming Yes, I will give it a name other than any profile currently in use on my system, correct? Once that is done, I will then select "choose Folder" and go to where I copied the information from my C to E drive. If all of that is correct, and I don't do something wrong, I should then have all of my SeaMonkey folders active on my E drive. Question - What happens to my old profile named SeaMonkey at its original location? Do I delete this profile, or will it be needed sometime in the future? Will new versions of SeaMonkey know where to find the new location for this profile?

I suppose I am hesitant to proceed without knowing where I am going. Help.

Frog
